Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall played host to over 700 job seekers on Friday as local MP Andrew Mitchell’s Jobs Fair brought in the crowds making the most of the 54 business exhibitors and careers workshops on offer.

The successful day was opened by Mr Mitchell and was attended by a wide variety of job seekers ranging from new school leavers to graduates considering their post-higher education careers. Many of the young people who attended said they had been attracted by the number of exhibitors offering vacancies, apprenticeships and work training qualifications in such a wide range of industry sectors.

Exhibitors in attendance included Manpower the main recruiters for Jaguar & Land Rover, National Express and Deloitte alongside Sutton businesses including CM200, Eagles Consultancy and the Sutton Coldfield branches of Avon Cosmetics and Adecco. Sutton’s MP was seen visiting ever exhibitor personally to thank them for attending the day and making it such a resounding success.

Visitors also made the most of a range of careers workshops from representatives of the sport, digital gaming and media industries. Also provided were on-the-spot CV’s and one-to-one careers advice for job seekers.

The day was supported by a number of local stakeholders including Darren Stanley and Sue Horton from the local Jobs Centre and Mainstream Print Ltd who produced over 4000 leaflets for the day as well as the banner which stood proudly over the Town Hall advertising the day.

Speaking at the closure of the event Andrew Mitchell commented ‘The Jobs & Careers Fair has been a real success. I am very pleased to see so many young people and job seekers from Royal Sutton Coldfield attend the day and make the most of the opportunities on offer. The support we have received from the local community is testament to the spirit of our Royal Town and the drive of our young people moving on from education to work. I hope we can build on the success of this Jobs & Careers Fair in future events”.
