Andrew Mitchell and local councillors meet with Head Teacher of Fairfax to discuss future of education policy

Andrew Mitchell and Trinity Ward Councillors Ewan Mackey and Margaret Waddington met with Andy Bird, Head of the Fairfax Academy Trust to discuss education policy in the Royal Town and the wider region.

At the meeting Andy Bird updated Mr Mitchell and the Councillors on the work the Trust is undertaking with primary and secondary schools in Sutton and across Birmingham and the resulting positive developments in standards. In Sutton education standards remain high with Fairfax School expecting its best ever results this year. All sides agreed

Councillors Ewan Mackey and Margaret Waddington raised the topic of funding procedures between Trusts and those schools funded by the local authority as well as pointing out the strong academic record of the schools within Sutton Trinity Ward including Bishop Vesey Grammar School and Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls.

Speaking after the meeting Andrew Mitchell said ‘I very much appreciated Andy Bird taking the time to sit down with me and Councillors Mackey and Waddington. He brings a strong commitment to ensuring that the high standards of education in Sutton are maintained and I hope he and his team at Fairfax can replicate this success across Birmingham’.
