Andrew Mitchell meets with local Branch of National Council of Women

Andrew Mitchell MP has met with the Birmingham Branch of the National Council of Women (NCW) to hear how the organisation has grown and discuss policy areas of concern to the organisation and how, as Sutton’s MP, he can assist them.

The NCW delegation, led by Birmingham Branch President Elizabeth Lorden, raised the issue of training for carers who look after elderly people suffering from dementia and the importance of hands on training for those going into the care industry.

Retired Sutton GP Dr Sonja Lloyd expressed her hopes that this would reduce variations in quality of care and praised the Government backed Skills for Care charity for the work it has done to raise standards of adult social care.

Following the meeting Andrew Mitchell commented “I fully support the points my constituent Elizabeth and her colleagues at the NCW have raised with me. Making sure that the elderly receive the high quality of care they deserve is essential. With an increasing life-expectancy it has never been more important to ensure that a solid infrastructure is in place for caring for our elderly and the NCW make a very valid case in highlighting the need for training. I look forward to hearing from them further and how I can assist the movement’s efforts’.
