Andrew Mitchell MP discusses Coalition Government’s education policy with Sutton Coldfield Secondary School Headteachers

Andrew Mitchell MP has attended the annual meeting of Sutton Coldfield’s Secondary School Headteachers to discuss their views on current educational issues impacting upon teachers and pupils throughout Sutton Coldfield – and will be reporting their comments back to the Secretary of State for Education.

Attending the meeting were the Headteachers of all seven of Sutton’s Secondary Schools, the Assistant Principal of Birmingham Metropolitan College as well as a representative from each of the school’s Board of Governors.

With the Government’s Education Bill currently under debate in the House of Commons the meeting was an important opportunity for Sutton’s MP and the town’s Headteachers to discuss its proposals and their potential impact on Sutton Coldfield. Topics covered included: issues surrounding conversion to Academy status and the new English Baccalaureate certificate.

Andrew Mitchell MP said, "I always find this meeting provides a very interesting, useful and constructive update on the issues affecting Sutton’s teachers and pupils. This year, with the Government’s school reforms well under way, it is has been more significant than ever.

“It is an important component of my work as Sutton’s representative at Parliament and I will be passing our Headteachers’ views to my colleague Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education.”
