Andrew Mitchell MP holds discussions with Royal Town’s secondary headteachers

Andrew Mitchell MP has held his Annual Meeting with Headteachers from the Royal Town’s Secondary Schools. The meeting is an opportunity for Sutton’s MP to catch up with the Headteachers of all seven of Sutton’s Secondary Schools and from Birmingham Metropolitan College.

This year’s meeting highlighted concern about young people's mental health services and the pressure placed on students to pass STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths). Budgetary pressures continue to be a point of concern.

Andrew Mitchell MP said:
“This year’s Annual Meeting has proved to be a useful forum for the discussion of local and national education issues. While I am encouraged by last year’s announcement of a 1.2% increase to Sutton Coldfield’s school funding, I remain determined to ensure that the quality of the education in Sutton continues to increase every year. The concerns raised by the Schools are my concerns and help inform the ongoing discussions I have with Nick Gibb MP, the Minister for Schools.

“Our yearly meeting provides an essential update on the issues affecting teachers and students in Sutton Coldfield and a chance for me to meet Sutton’s Headteachers and thank them for all that they do for my young constituents.”
