Andrew Mitchell MP invites Lottery funders to see Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall

Andrew Mitchell MP has met with the West Midlands Head of the Big Lottery Fund, Matthew Poole, to appeal for support in realising ambitious proposals for renovations, developments and improvements to the Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

In the meeting, Mr Mitchell was flanked by two new members of the Royal Sutton Coldfield Community Town Hall Trust (SCART) - Dave Crump, Trustee responsible for Building and Richard Mason who acts as the Chair.

During the meeting, Dave Crump gave a compelling presentation to Mr Poole guiding him through the ambitious proposals. This included everything from essential maintenance such as mechanical and electrical work to an entirely new external terrace and a glazed façade to an all-out extension to the lower ground floor. The meeting was finished off with a tour of the 19th century building.

After the meeting, Mr Mitchell said: “The Town Hall has the potential to have a much greater reach than Sutton Coldfield, attracting people all over the West Midlands to see the Town Hall which is the jewel in the Royal Town’s crown and is an important landmark in Sutton Coldfield. However, the Town Hall is in serious danger of falling into disrepair without massive funding and we are now exploring the opportunity of raising significant funds.

“This was a constructive and helpful meeting and I know that while lottery funding alone will not secure and realise our ambitious proposals, it could form the basis of attracting further financial backing.”
