Andrew Mitchell MP pays a pre-Christmas visit to Green House pub to investigate constituents’ concerns

Andrew Mitchell MP has met with senior management from Sutton’s newly named ‘Green House’ pub on the corner of Jordan Road to discuss the concerns of constituents regarding the recent renovations and renaming.

Andrew met with three of Mitchells and Butlers (MAB) senior staff – the company that own and operate the pub previously known as the Halfway House. The meeting was organised after Mr Mitchell received various letters and emails of complaint from constituents regarding the pub’s renaming and renovations. The Halfway House has stood in its current spot for over 100 years.

Andrew Mitchell heard that the Mitchells and Butlers team had dealt with the complaints from residents by inviting individuals to the pub to explain the logic behind their changes. Mr Mitchell agreed that as a result, the majority of those who originally wrote to him were now content with the decisions made.

Sutton’s MP heard how MAB spent £650,000 renovating the building and now employs 40-50 staff, mostly young people from the local community.

Andrew Mitchell MP said, “I am pleased to have had this opportunity to discuss my constituents’ concerns with Mitchells and Butlers. This business has been a feature on the Sutton landscape for many years. I think they understand that local people feel strongly about this place and their refurbishment work has therefore been carried out in a sensitive manner that complements the existing character of the building.”

Mitchells and Butlers said, “We believe this was the opportune time for us to invest in the pub in order to develop its offer as a pub restaurant.”
