Andrew Mitchell MP presents award to Sutton Coldfield Inner Wheel Club Founder & President, Lillian Hopkins

Andrew Mitchell MP has presented a surprise special award to Lillian Hopkins, the Founder President of the Sutton Coldfield Inner Wheel Club, for 20 years of dedicated charity work.

Mr Mitchell was asked to surprise Lillian at an event she was attending at the Clover Hotel on Chester Road by her Inner Wheel friends and colleagues. Andrew presented her with an engraved crystal decanter which celebrates her many years of dedication to charitable causes, particularly in developing countries where she has played a vital role in schemes like the Camphill Community Project in Botswana.

Sutton’s MP made a short speech congratulating Lillian on her fantastic achievements. 30 – 40 people attended the event, including the Inner Wheel’s Rotary Club partners.

Speaking at the event Andrew Mitchell MP said, “I can tell from the extremely positive atmosphere here that Lillian is universally admired and thoroughly deserves this award for her marvellous charitable work. I am so pleased to have been asked to surprise such a lovely lady with this small token of thanks for all her hard work and dedication.”

The Inner Wheel Club is an international organisation for the partners and relatives of Rotarians, originally founded because the Rotary Club was male only. Much of the work of the Inner Wheel focuses on helping developing countries throughout the world. Lillian founded what is now Wylde Green Inner Wheel Club in 1992 and has been involved ever since.
