Andrew Mitchell MP takes tea with Royal Town’s clergy

Andrew Mitchell MP has held his annual meeting with Sutton Coldfield’s Clergy and Faith Leaders, hosted this year by the Sutton Coldfield Muslim Association.

Mr Mitchell and the Faith Leaders had a discussion on a wide range of topics, ranging from local concerns, such as the quality of local Social Services, to wider issues facing the communities across the UK, including the future relationship with the European Union; the housing crisis; and wider concerns regarding intergenerational inequality.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Mitchell said:

“Maintaining regular contact with faith leaders in Sutton Coldfield is vital in shaping the way I go about my work both in Sutton Coldfield and at Westminster. We had a very constructive discussion about the needs of Suttonians in general, as well as broader political issues.

“A particular point of concern for faith leaders was that some bereaved families faced delay when registering relatives' deaths due to Good Hope Hospital delaying the release of the body and the issuing the medical certificate. This is particularly a problem for religious families who must bury the deceased within a specific time frame. I have therefore written to the Chief Executive, Dame Julie Moore, to see if anything can be done to hasten the process.”
