Andrew Mitchell MP talks to Year 6 pupils at Deanery School in Sutton Coldfield ahead of their visit to the Houses of Parliament

Andrew Mitchell MP has visited Deanery Church of England Primary School, Fox Hollies Road, Sutton Coldfield to talk to Year 6 pupils about his role as their Member of Parliament and his new role in the Cabinet.

Mr Mitchell’s visit comes ahead of the pupil’s trip to Westminster on 11 June where 60 Year 6 children will tour the Houses of Parliament – something that Mr Mitchell helps to arrange annually.

Andrew spoke to the pupils about his day to day work as their MP and they inspected his ‘red box’ from the cabinet. He then took questions from the children, some of which were: “Does faith affect your job?” “Why did you choose to become a Conservative?” and “Do you believe in capital punishment?”

Andrew Mitchell MP said, “It is always a pleasure to visit our schools in Sutton Coldfield and I very much enjoyed meeting the enthusiastic pupils of Deanery School. The questions posed to me by Year 6 showed their impressive grasp of current affairs and interest in the work of the House of Commons.”
