Andrew Mitchell MP urges those who value Sutton’s Green Belt to contribute to the City Council’s consultation which ends Monday

Sutton Coldfield’s Member of Parliament, Andrew Mitchell, is encouraging his constituents who are yet to respond to the City Council’s public consultation on Sutton’s Green Belt to submit their views on the proposals by Monday 14 January 2013.

Andrew Mitchell MP, said, “I have now received notification from the Director of Planning for Birmingham City Council to let me know that the correspondence I have been passing on in order to demonstrate the level of opposition to their plans for Sutton Coldfield will be considered in due course. However, it is vital that the City Council is aware of Sutton’s united front in opposing these plans and I am, therefore, urging all those who value our Green Belt in Sutton Coldfield to make individual submissions to the consultation which ends next Monday.”

In December, Andrew Mitchell signed an amendment to the Growth & Infrastructure Bill which if successful would require planning authorities to identify that there is, or will be, sufficient infrastructure to support new development in their development plans.

In addition, Mr Mitchell has, this week, tabled four Written Parliamentary Questions to the Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government asking:

  • For clarification on the Government’s position in respect of local authorities proposing to build on Green Belt land as part of their development plan;
  • If the Government will be taking steps to encourage a more imaginative and creative approach to developing Brownfield sites for residential purposes;
  • If a full study will be carried out on the effect new communities will have on local infrastructure;
  • If a full study will be carried out on the environmental effects of building on Green Belt land.
