Andrew Mitchell MP visits Ashfurlong Medical Centre and meets with GPs as part of the BMA’s MP-GP practice visit scheme

Andrew Mitchell MP has visited Ashfurlong Medical Centre in Sutton Coldfield as part of the British Medical Association’s MP-GP practice visit scheme. Founded 13 years ago, the Centre is occupied and jointly owned by GP Partners from both the Manor and Tudor Practices. The Centre looks after more than 6,000 patients from Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding area.

Andrew Mitchell was given a tour of the Centre by Dr Robert Flacks, and afterwards met with Dr Nigel Speak and partners to discuss health care in Sutton Coldfield as well as the Government’s plans to reform the NHS.

During the meeting, Andrew Mitchell listened to the doctors’ views on the impact of the proposals on medical services in Sutton Coldfield. He also heard their views on planned changes to the management structure of Primary Care Trusts and discussed some of the budgetary and practical issues arising from giving greater power to GPs.

Sutton’s MP assured the doctors of his commitment to supporting GPs to ensure they can deliver a high standard of care to patients in his constituency.

This is Mr Mitchell’s second autumn visit as part of the MP-GP scheme; he visited Walmley’s Ashfield Surgery in September.

Andrew Mitchell MP said, “The doctors of Ashfurlong Medical Centre are a very forward-thinking group of enthusiastic GPs who are constantly looking to improve services to patients. Sutton Coldfield residents are well served by the Centre and I am grateful for the outstanding job that they do in looking after patients from the local area.”
