Andrew Mitchell MP welcomes proper recognition for a Sutton Coldfield World War Two hero

Andrew Mitchell MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement that World War Two heroes who served on the Arctic Convoys and in Bomber Command will be eligible to receive new recognition.

Production of the new Arctic Star medal and Bomber Command clasp will start this week and living veterans and widows will be the first in line to receive the new awards from as early as March. Following a home visit, Sutton Coldfield’s MP has been actively campaigning on behalf of a constituent who served our country in Bomber Command and on the Arctic Convoys.

Andrew Mitchell MP, said “This is a fantastic announcement which will truly recognise the bravery displayed and the contribution that British veterans of the Arctic Convoys made in protecting Britain during World War Two.

“I have long been making representations on behalf of an elderly constituent and I am, therefore, delighted that in the next few weeks he will receive the Bomber Command clasp and Arctic Star that he has so long deserved.”

Sutton Coldfield’s MP is encouraging all eligible veterans and next of kin in Sutton Coldfield to apply for the new awards. Families of those no longer alive will also be able to apply for these awards in recognition of their loved one’s bravery.
