Andrew Mitchell shows support for sight loss charity Focus Birmingham

Earlier this month Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell visited the headquarters of Focus Birmingham, a specialist charity providing expert support, advice and information to anyone in the Birmingham area affected by sight loss, and support for those who care for them.

Mr Mitchell visited the site and met a number of carers and visitors to the centre. On his tour he was shown around the Low Vision Centre, which supports almost 200 people a month by providing information and advice regarding the diagnosis and prognosis of eye conditions, and a variety of equipment designed to make life easier for those facing loss of vision.

He also learnt about other services provided by Focus, including community services and the day services provided through the Elizabeth Gunn Centre, which have contact with between 400 and 500 people a month, and provide a whole range of services to the local community with sight loss.

The charity has a community team that works in Sutton Coldfield, providing support to Suttonians dealing with the loss of their sight, making them aware of the support, both emotional and practical, that is available to them.

Following his visit Andrew Mitchell said “It was very interesting to visit Focus Birmingham and to learn more about the excellent work they do in the Birmingham including the services they provide to my constituents in Sutton Coldfield. This is an excellent organisation that delivers real value to the community”.
