Local MP Andrew Mitchell: Our action plan to tackle crime is making Sutton Coldfield a safer place to live

Sutton Coldfield’s Member of Parliament, Andrew Mitchell, has welcomed news that crime in Sutton Coldfield is falling. The latest figures from the independent Office for National Statistics show that since 2010 recorded crime in the West Midlands has fallen by 17%. Within Sutton Coldfield total recorded crime is down by almost 30%.

This comes following an action plan by the Government to tackle crime by freeing up Police time through cutting red tape and scrapping unnecessary targets; giving out tougher sentences to criminals so that communities are better protected and justice is done; giving Police the powers they need through the latest tools & Techniques to deal with criminals; dealing with the root causes of crime in an effort to stop people from becoming criminals. In an effort to drive down crime the Government is also making Police accountable to the community.

Commenting on this Andrew Mitchell said “We want Sutton Coldfield to be an even safer place for everyone who lives here. Thanks to our plan, and the hard work of Police Officers, recorded crime is down by 28% in Sutton Coldfield. This is a significant reduction and I am sure that the whole community will feel safer and more secure as a result’.
