Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP meets Officials & Constituents about possible changes at Good Hope Hospital

Andrew Mitchell has made representations to the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust and the Managing Director of Good Hope Hospital following questions raised about possible changes at Good Hope Hospital. Particular concern has been raised about the possibility of the Trauma Centre being relocated to Heartlands Hospital.

Following his discussion Andrew Mitchell said that the Trust is currently undertaking a wide-ranging review relating to the configuration of services and is drawing on the expertise and views of clinicians. The Chief Executive, Mark Newbold, is aware of the need to engage and consult locally and is hopeful of putting forward options as soon as there are definite proposals to discuss.

However, the Chief Executive has assured Mr Mitchell that the Trust will have a starting point that “there is no option that includes the running down of any of the hospitals we are responsible for”.

Andrew Mitchell said “I fully understand and share the concerns of my constituents about services being moved from Good Hope Hospital. I pay the closest possible attention to everything that happens at Good Hope and I am watching what goes on like a hawk on behalf of my constituents. Indeed, I will be making my next regular visit to Good Hope in 7 days time. I have sought assurances from the Chief Executive of the NHS Heart of England Trust who has assured me there will be public facing events for Sutton Coldfield residents to have their say.”

I have arranged a meeting with the Managing Director of Good Hope Hospital for early in January and very much hope that there will be more clearly defined proposals for consideration by that time.

I will also be meeting with the Chairman of the Trust, Lord Hunt, at the House of Commons next week. The future of Good Hope Hospital is extremely important to the Town and I will be monitoring the situation closely over the next few months. I can say at this moment there is no cause for alarm on this.”
