Sutton’s MP addresses Sutton Speakers Club Annual Dinner
Andrew Mitchell provided the keynote speech at the prestigious Speakers Club Annual Dinner, this year held at Aston Wood Golf Club. This was the Club’s 53rd Annual Dinner, and is always a highlight of the Club’s social calendar.
The local MP faced quite a challenge, as the Club strictly adheres to the principle that speakers are not allowed to discuss politics or religion. But Mr Mitchell addressed the challenge, instead focusing on the plight of the civilian population, and those doctors left, in the besieged city of Aleppo.
Following his speech the Club President, Pam Collins, thanked Andrew for his insights and brought the event to a close with a light-hearted Christmas-themed debate between members, and a raffle in which everyone was guaranteed to win a prize.
The objective of the Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club is to help people achieve confidence in public speaking. Members are given the opportunity to make speeches at meetings and each speech is evaluated by another member, good points praised and areas for improvement flagged up.
