Sutton Coldfield Celebrates at Annual Civic Service in Holy Trinity Church

Sutton Coldfield’s annual Civic Service has taken place at Holy Trinity Parish Church, where a large congregation celebrated the life, society and people of Sutton Coldfield.

Representatives from all aspects of Sutton Coldfield’s life were in attendance, including Sutton Coldfield’s charities, local voluntary organisations, members of the uniformed services, Sutton’s MP, Andrew Mitchell and the town’s Councillors.

Three Hon. Alderman also attended – David Roy, Reg Hudson and Judy Watts-James.

The Service was taken by Rev. John Routh, Priest-in-charge of Holy Trinity, with readings by Paul Sabapathy, the Lord-Lieutenant for the West Midlands, and Andrew Mitchell MP.

Now in its fifth year, the Civic Service was reinstated by Andrew Mitchell MP and former Councillor David Roy in 2005 after an absence of more than 30 years, and has been getting stronger each year ever since. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “Sutton’s 2010 Civic Service was a great success. I am delighted to see the tradition fully reinstated and now in its fifth year.

“We have much to be proud of in Sutton Coldfield and the Civic Service is an excellent way to both remember and celebrate this.”
