Today in the House of Commons, MPs will debate assisted dying for the first time in two and a half years. We have not been asked to vote on prospective legislation for almost seven. A great deal has changed in that time, not least the mood in Parliament.

It has been a busy week ahead of a big day for the Mitchell family. After two consecutive Covid-inflicted delays, I’m delighted that my daughter Rosie’s wedding is finally going ahead today.
Up and down the Royal Town people have been getting into the Jubilee spirit. Local organisations, schools and businesses have been playing their part to honour Her Majesty’s historic milestone in unique and different ways, which included a striking poster (pictured) in the heart of our Royal Town saluting Her Majesty.
I much enjoyed cutting the ribbon to launch the new United Carpets outlet, which has rejuvenated the former HSBC bank building in the heart of Mere Green to create a bright and welcoming showroom.
