Parliamentary Allowances
In the interests of transparency I am publishing here my annual returns to the Fees Office regarding my Second Home Allowance (2004/05 to 2008/09) for my constituents to scrutinise.
People are understandably furious about the way in which the expenses system has been abused by some MPs. All MPs – even those who have not breached the rules – were part of a system which lies discredited. I am confident that all my claims were made in good faith and in accordance with the letter and spirit of the rules. But as we can all now see, those rules were themselves flawed. That is why, like all MPs from my Party, I have passed all my claims to the Conservative Party Scrutiny Committee, which will carefully examine them. If there are any expenses that they query I will immediately repay them.
