Andrew Mitchell MP pleased with progress on HS2 in Parliament

3rd December 2013

Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell reaffirmed his support for the HS2 Rail Project as the Bill for the scheme was presented to Parliament on Monday.

The Bill, which is an estimated 50,000 pages long, sets out the Government’s plans for the multi-billion pound rail line.

It will legislate for the first phase of High Speed Two, which covers the Southern section of the project – from London to Birmingham.

Andrew Mitchell MP said “The presentation of the Bill is the next step in getting HS2 off the ground and I am delighted it has now been published.

“There are a whole host of reasons why we need HS2 in Birmingham, including the issue of capacity and freeing up other rail services.

“The potential multi-billion pound economic boost that HS2 could bring to Birmingham and the Black Country is also an extremely important factor.

“There is major cross party and community support for HS2 in Birmingham because we all know how important this project is for the city and region. I am proud to be part of it.

“That is why a lot of Labour supporters in the City are so disappointed with the flip-flopping of senior Labour figures on the building of the line.”
