Andrew Mitchell MP voices refuse collection complaints on behalf of constituents

7th February 2011

Andrew Mitchell MP has voiced his concern over Sutton Coldfield refuse collections on behalf of frustrated constituents who have complained.

Since problems started in December, Andrew has been in close and regular contact with Sutton’s Councillors and with the City Council to ensure that everything possible is done to get refuse collections back up and running to full capacity.

“I fully understand their concerns and I know that our local Councillors have been vigorously pursuing the City Council to clear the back log of refuse that has accumulated against a background of severe weather, seasonal waste and industrial action.

“Several of Sutton’s hard working Councillors have been out and about solving these problems on the ground in their wards. I would like to thank them for their vigorous engagement.

“The City Council’s Fleet Waste Management Department has developed a plan to deal with the situation but matters have not been helped by additional bad weather last Friday.

“I have been informed that there are now three teams out collecting refuse, the normal operators, contracted operators plus additional teams of young unemployed people. It is hoped that this will enable all rubbish to be cleared by the end of this week.

“I understand how deeply frustrating it must be for those residents affected but I can assure them that Sutton’s Councillors are doing everything possible to get things back to normal.”
