Andrew Mitchell visited Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls last Friday, where he addressed the sixth form and took questions from girls on a diverse selection of issues, including development aid spending and the future of animal agriculture. He also visited the new sports hall, which was opened by Katherine Grainger CBE in the summer.
Sutton’s MP took the opportunity to highlight the importance of participating in the democratic process and making sure that students were aware of the need to register to vote. He highlighted the history of the long fight for women’s suffrage, as well as the ongoing struggle for universal suffrage across the globe.
Andrew Mitchell said “The new sports hall is a fantastic addition to the school, and I am sure goes a long way to encouraging girls to take part in sport. I am always impressed by the questions that the girls here ask, and the depth of knowledge of the issues behind their questions. They reflect the great diversity of interests, which are evidently supported by the school and staff”.
