Andrew Mitchell MP has welcomed news that the number of unemployed in Royal Sutton Coldfield fell over the last twelve months from 2 per cent to less than 1.5 per cent. The fall means 350 people in Sutton secured work who were not in work the previous year.
The figures released by the Office of National Statistics show that youth unemployment continues to stay low in Sutton at 2.2 per cent compared to 3.5 per cent in January 2014. The decrease in unemployment is mirrored across the West Midlands where 31,000 more people were in work compared with three months previously.
Following the publication of the latest employment figures Andrew Mitchell said, “This is excellent news and I am very pleased to see that unemployment continues to decrease in Sutton Coldfield as employment rises. Unemployment has halved in Sutton since May 2010, when this Government came into office. I am committed to do all I can to help businesses take on more local people to continue improving the employment opportunities throughout Sutton Coldfield”.
