On Friday 18th March, Andrew Mitchell MP opened a sleep out at the Gracechurch shopping centre to raise awareness for youth homelessness.
The event raised money for the Royal Town\'s YMCA with sponsorship from local businesses, including the Ramada Hotel and Nando\'s who provided catering for participants. Over 75 people in attendance were entertained by many activities including a Zumba class and a magician.
The YMCA is a charity providing services and support for young people in housing need, especially those moving out of home for the first time and those newly arrived in the area for training, study or work.
YMCA Housing Manager Sinead Frith said, “This is the third year we have done this event with local businesses and it has enabled us to raise awareness about youth homelessness as well as raise vital funds for Sutton Coldfield YMCA.”
Mr Mitchell added, “I was pleased to join the YMCA on a Friday night for their second Sleep Easy of the year alongside other supporters, volunteers, service users and staff and praise their efforts in providing localised help for young people in Sutton Coldfield.”
