View from the House

15th November 2018

As I compose my column for the Royal Sutton Coldfield Observer, we await the publication of the withdrawal deal which has been concluded by the negotiating teams fielded by the United Kingdom and the European Union.

I anticipate spending the weekend reading it and assessing its effects - along with enjoying the Christmas lights being turned on in Boldmere and celebrating Diwali at the Ramada in Walmley.

My sole concern will be to ensure that the action we now take is in the best possible interest of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield and all of those I represent at Westminster.

The role of all of us who have the privilege of being Members of the House of Commons is to work out what is now best for our country and my constituents. I am not sure there will be many more important votes in my political lifetime than the one I will make on your behalf over leaving the European Union and indeed the way we do so. But I am clear that on this vital matter, protecting the interests of Sutton Coldfield and all those who live here is my sole objective.

I am looking forward very much to listening to the views of my constituents throughout the Royal Town before making up my mind about how to vote.
