The inaugural meeting of Royal Sutton Coldfield’s Young Conservatives Organisation took place and attracted a host of under 30’s on Thursday evening, as young people from across the Royal Town all came together to discuss the current political climate with local MP Andrew Mitchell over mulled wine and mince pies.
The organisation has been set up to provide local young people with the opportunity to meet other likeminded individuals, as well as giving them a safe space in which to learn to debate and challenge each other’s views.
The first order of business during the lively evening session was to elect five members to the executive committee.
Lukhani Rogol, son of former Town Councillor Rachel Okello, successfully won the position of Chair; Nick Dowling and Hannah Cartwright were elected as Deputy Chairs; Jamie Babington as Treasurer; former Vesey Ward Town Council Candidate Matthew Fox-Redfern as Secretary and Four Oaks Ward Town Councillor Clare Horrocks was appointed as the organisation’s Honorary President. The new group will meet five or six times a year for social events and political discussions.
Following the event, Andrew said:
“I am delighted to take part in the excellent launch of this great group of young people.”
