Andrew Mitchell, MP for Sutton Coldfield, has voiced his support for the local venture capital sector after meeting with Simon Ward, Investment Director of Enterprise Ventures. Their discussion focused on the role that venture capital and private equity could play in entrenching the economic recovery in Sutton and the surrounding region. Enterprise Ventures, whose Birmingham office serves Sutton Coldfield, specialises in backing small firms and enabling them to expand. Tim Hames, Head of Public Affairs for the British Venture Capital Association, who also attended the meeting, said afterwards, “This has been a challenging two years for venture capital but the work of firms such as Enterprise Ventures shows that there is the real possibility of job creation in the West Midlands over the next 12 months. The support of leading politicians such as Mr Mitchell is vital if we are to succeed in that ambition.” Andrew Mitchell MP said, “The local venture capital sector can play a key role in helping tackle the record deficit that this Government inherited and laying the foundations of economic growth both here in Sutton and nationally. “This is why the new Coalition Government supports the sector and wants it to flourish. I will remain in close contact with Enterprise Ventures to make sure they receive the support they need to help get small businesses off ground here in Sutton.” For more information contact Tim Hames art BVCA 020 7420 1840.',
