Tribute to Jack Dromey MP

I learnt with great sadness the news of Jack Dromey's sudden and unexpected death last Friday at his home in Birmingham.

Over the last 20 years as the Royal Town’s MP I have worked closely with all surrounding MP s (nearly all labour as it happens) but none more closely than Jack - not least because in spite  of our political differences there have been issues of importance to us both which crossed our boundaries and on the resolution of which we were both in agreement.

It’s not always clear to the public amidst the noise and fury of politics that Members of the Commons quite often work well together to achieve common objectives.  Jack was an exceptional example of that and someone who achieved so much as a result.

His background as a senior trades Union leader before entering the Commons meant he was adept at securing agreement and used his superb negotiating skills for common purpose.

He was a pleasure to work with and we became good friends.  I mourn his loss as a fine public servant and to Harriet and his family I have sent my love, sympathy and condolences.
