I would like to begin this week’s message by paying tribute to my longstanding colleague and friend Sir David Amess MP. I have known David since he was first elected in 1983 and our offices in the House of Commons were next door to each other. David was a great champion of animal rights and a hugely experienced MP who was respected across the House. Today’s news is a terrible shock and my thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.
Andrew Mitchell MP met Henrietta Brealey the new CEO of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce followed by a meeting with Mike Bushell, the Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID Manager.

Every day 15 people are killed or injured by landmines and unexploded ordnance. Most of them are children, like the 10-year-old girl I met in Kabul, who suffered life changing injuries after stepping on a mine while playing with her friends.
Today the Leader of our Town Council Simon Ward and I have had several meetings about local planning and our town redevelopment plans, including with M&G Real Estate who currently own and manage the Gracechurch Centre and Bordeaux estates who are redeveloping Central Place.
To mark World Alzheimer’s Month, Andrew Mitchell MP joined Alzheimer’s Research UK at an event in Parliament to show his support for funding dementia research. The aim of the event was to highlight the importance of the government’s manifesto promise to double funding for dementia research, known as the “Dementia Moonshot”.
