The Royal Town’s MP, Andrew Mitchell, welcomed the House of Commons & Lords Rugby Team to Sutton Coldfield for a celebrity match against The Old Veseyans – the old boys of Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School.

Sutton Coldfield based business, Honeybourne Facilities Group, was the local business sponsoring the match.

Honeybourne, as well as the Commons & Lords Rugby Team do a vast amount of work for children’s charities, demonstrating to children how sport can be fun and showing the benefits you can reap from taking part. Honeybourne work extensively within the Education sector and have recently undertaken Rugby coaching at a number of schools.

The match took place on Sunday and was a memorable family day. It was a busy morning with the Veseyans Minis and Juniors starting back for the new season, rain threatened but nothing could dampen the spirits of the players and supporters. Kick off was 12pm and the support and camaraderie was amazing, not only from Honeybourne and the Veseyans but also the Lords who had travelled from all over the country.

Local Member of Parliament Andrew Mitchell, educated at Rugby School and sporting his Veseyans tie presented to him 3 years ago by the school, cheered on the local lads who won the match with a convincing lead.

After the match, Andrew Mitchell presented The Honeybourne Cup to the old Veseyan Team.

Doug Hunt, Managing Director of Honeybourne Facilities commented “We are pleased to be working with the House of Lords and Commons. We are delighted they took up the rugby challenge, it was a fantastic day enjoyed by all and we look forward to supporting future events.”
