Andrew Mitchell MP has announced a Sutton Coldfield Jobs and Careers Fair to take place on 18 July, at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. The Jobs Fair will feature local and national businesses offering vacancies and apprenticeship schemes, with Advice Seminars taking place on the day. The Jobs Fair announcement follows recent unemployment figures that show unemployment in Sutton Coldfield has fallen from 1,588 in May 2010 to 979 in February 2014. Among young people unemployment has fallen by almost fifty per cent from 435 in May 2010 to 230 in February 2014. The day will begin with an introduction by Sutton’s MP at 10am and there will be exhibits by up to 50 businesses with job vacancies, apprenticeship places and volunteer opportunities designed to develop skills including the Government’s International Citizen Service. In addition there will be guidance on preparing CV’s and job applications. The plans have received support from the Department for Work and Pensions, local schools and the business community with a large number of attendees expected on the day. Andrew Mitchell commented “I am very happy to announce the Sutton Coldfield Jobs Fair which aims to assist those looking for employment by putting job seekers in contact with businesses with vacancies and helping build the skills of those looking for a job. It is also a great opportunity for young people who are interested in apprenticeships and alternatives to higher education”.
