Andrew Mitchell MP delivered the Annual Sutton Coldfield Churches Lenten Lecture at Sutton Coldfield Baptist Church on the topic of ‘How Government and Politicians can help build communities’. The meeting was co-chaired by Reverend Richard Tucker and Reverend Donald Campbell of the Sutton Coldfield Churches Together Group. Andrew Mitchell spoke on the Governments Big Society philosophy and drive to foster local communities away from central Government. He highlighted efforts to roll back the state to put decision making power in local hands as a way the Government gives local communities the powers to shape the areas they live in. He also spoke of how the Government’s National Citizen Service, which Sutton Coldfield Schools participate in, helps to bring young people together to work on community develop projects.
