Birmingham Metropolitan College which includes the Sutton Campus has won Pearson’s Most Innovative BTEC Apprenticeship Provider of the Year award at the National BTEC Awards which recognise excellence in vocational education and was celebrated in a ceremony at the House of Commons. Andrew Mitchell MP congratulated representatives of the College who attended a Parliamentary reception on the House of Lords Terrace ahead of the Awards Ceremony hosted by Radio 1 DJ Matt Edmondson at the Royal Horticultural Halls. Birmingham Metropolitan College offers a large apprenticeship programme using facilities and resources, particularly in technology, which are among the best in the country. The judges were particularly impressed by the College’s innovative approach to the delivery of its apprenticeships and the strong links it has developed with global businesses. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “It is great that Birmingham Metropolitan College Sutton Coldfield Campus outshone the hundreds of other nominations to win this award. It is important that we celebrate excellence in education and as Sutton’s MP I am extremely proud that the College has been nationally recognised for their leadership in providing apprenticeships.” “The Coalition Government is committed to giving opportunities to more young people – over a million apprenticeships have been started since 2010, half a million of them in the 2011/12. In our region Birmingham Metropolitan College has played a key part in helping deliver the biggest ever boost to apprenticeships.” Photo: Andrew Mitchell MP with representatives from Birmingham Metropolitan College at the House of Commons.
