On 16 July, Andrew Mitchell MP visited The Shrubbery School on Walmley Ash Road in Sutton Coldfield to give an assembly to Year 6 pupils. The school leavers, who are all due to begin secondary school in September, heard about Mr Mitchell’s role as a Member of Parliament and his appointment to the Cabinet in May. Sutton Coldfield’s MP spoke about the electoral process and the big challenges facing the new Coalition Government. Questions were then posed by the pupils, some of which were: “Does the government have the right to tell us what to eat?”, “Why are speed limits so high on country roads?” and “Can you give my Dad a tax break?” Mr Mitchell was impressed by the children’s enthusiasm. “It’s always a pleasure to visit schools around Sutton Coldfield, and I was really struck by the thoughtfulness of the Year 6 pupils’ questions.
