Andrew Mitchell visited Acorns Children’s Hospice for a tour of the specialist facility and to hear about the vital service it provides for some of his young constituents. The Walsall based hospice is the only organisation that provides this type of care locally for life limited and life threatened children and young people. Children can stay at the hospice for short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care and it has a community team who are on hand to provide much needed support to families 24 hours a day. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “It was encouraging to meet Acorns’ Chief Executive David Strudley and Head Nurse Hilary Ball to learn more about how Acorns provides the best possible care to young people often in very difficult circumstances. “I wanted to show my support and thank the wonderful staff, volunteers and fundraisers who make sure that the high costs of running the Hospice are met. The vital service the Hospice provides is hugely valued by the community in Sutton Coldfield”. Acorns’ Chief Executive David Strudley explained to Mr Mitchell how Acorns urgently needs donations. Speaking on the tour of the hospice he said, “It costs £7,500 per day to run each of Acorns’ three children’s hospices, and we rely on donations for the majority of this income.” To find out more about the work of Acorns Children\'s Hospice and how you can help raise vital funds call Acorns on 0845 120 6892 or visit: www.acorns.org.uk Photo: Andrew Mitchell MP with Acorns Children’s Hospice Chief Executive David Strudley and Head Nurse Hilary Ball
