Andrew Mitchell MP is supporting the 2nd Sutton Coldfield Boys’ Brigade’s new book – PLANET BB – which is being sold to raise money for Boys’ Brigade projects around the world. The 128 page book consists of text and photographs which tell the stories of Boys’ Brigades in 30 different countries across the globe. Andrew Mitchell MP met with an Officer of the Company, David Chant, who is also the book’s editor and compiler, to discuss the project. The book which has been produced with the help of boys from 2nd Sutton Coldfield Boys’ Brigade, based at St John’s Walmley, has sold more than 600 copies which have been shipped to countries across the globe, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. The money raised is being used to help Boys’ Brigades projects that are in desperate need of financial assistance. £2,000 has already been sent to an orphanage in Uganda which has been used to set up a poultry holding, fund the children’s Christmas party and pay the rent. Mr Mitchell also heard how the book has an impressive accompanying website, designed and set up by an enterprising Sutton Coldfield boy: www.planet-bb.co.uk. The website provides details on how to order a copy of the book which costs £12.95. David Chant came up with the idea for a book to raise international aid at the same time Mr Mitchell was made Secretary of State for International Development. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “This is a great idea and I am pleased to have been able to help support our local Boys’ Brigade. Once again Sutton Coldfield is leading the way in charitable projects. I hope as many people as possible are able to buy this book which I look forward to reading over Easter.” The Boys\' Brigade provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old.
