Andrew Mitchell MP supports Carers Week 2021

Andrew Mitchell MP has marked Carers Week this year by thanking carers across Sutton Coldfield for all that they do to support vulnerable people.

Andrew Mitchell said, “This is an important occasion for recognising publicly the huge amount of time, effort and devotion which Sutton Coldfield's carers contribute week in, week out.

Paid and unpaid carers have worked incredibly hard over the past year in difficult circumstances. I would like to pay tribute in particular to all those who help look after their family, friends and loved ones. The pandemic has created additional pressures for many families and the past 15 months have been incredibly difficult for many carers. Respite care and other sources of support have been disrupted and this has taken a significant toll on the mental health of many carers. Carers Week gives us all a change to acknowledge the sacrifices carers make in order to improve the lives of others, and to thank them for all they do.

This year as well as thanking carers across Sutton Coldfield I have also written to the Government to highlight the work of unpaid carers in the Royal Town and I have pledged my support publicly on the Carers UK website.”

Notes to Editors: Carers Week 2021 is taking place this year from 7-13 June, helping to raise awareness of the vital role carers play in supporting our communities and is the largest annual carers awareness campaign in the UK. It is led by Carers UK, with the support of five other national charities: Age UK, Carers Trust, MND Association, Rethink Mental Illness and Oxfam GB.
