Andrew Mitchell MP attended Mere Green Combined School’s Paralympic Sports Day to present trophies to each year group in the school’s closing ceremony. The day was supported by the Sainsbury’s store in Mere Green who provided free sports equipment to encourage the children to try a Paralympic sport. This is part of a challenge set by Sainsbury’s to get 1 million children involved in the Paralympics. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “The children were expertly guided by two members of the Sutton Coldfield Paralympics team and thoroughly enjoyed trying activities such as Goalball, Volleyball and Blind Football.” “Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer is a once in a generation opportunity for the UK to showcase itself to a massive international audience and it is important that people from across the UK feel part of the wider celebration.” Photo:Andrew Mitchell MP with Sainsbury’s staff, children from Mere Green School and members of the Sutton Coldfield Paralympic team.
