Andrew Mitchell MP has intervened on behalf of his constituents who have complained to him about London Midland’s proposals to reduce ticket office opening hours in stations across Sutton Coldfield. After receiving a large number of letters and emails from concerned constituents Andrew Mitchell wrote personally to Mike Hodson, Chief Executive of London Midland, expressing his concern about the proposals and requesting that London Midland reconsider their plans. In his letter Andrew Mitchell said, “I very much hope that the level of concern expressed about London Midland’s proposals will persuade you to reconsider these measures.” Under London Midland’s recently published proposals, ticket office opening hours at Sutton Coldfield, Wylde Green, Four Oaks, Butlers Lane, Blake Street and Chester Road stations will be reduced on weekdays and weekends, the office at Butlers Lane will be closed all day on Sundays. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “London Midland is being short sighted to ignore the tangible benefits of properly manned stations. I am particularly concerned that the closures could worsen antisocial behaviour at the stations, as the presence of a manned ticket office has been an important reassurance for station users and for local residents living nearby. I am pressing the company to rethink its plans.”
