Andrew Mitchell MP opened Sutton Coldfield’s Carers Week Event on Friday 22 June, with local Councillor, Margaret Waddington to thank carers across Sutton Coldfield. The event, held at the United Reformed Church, was one of 9,000 taking place around the UK and brought together local organisations providing care for the most vulnerable in society. Mr Mitchell discussed the important role of carers in the community and spoke about the Government’s commitment to ensure that people with caring responsibilities receive the support they need. The Government is taking steps to reform the social care system and make it possible for carers to strike a balance between their caring responsibilities and a life outside of caring. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “It was great to see the local community come together once again to support carers. Those who care do an incredible but often unnoticed job looking after their loved ones and they deserve support and recognition.” “The day also provided an important opportunity for those considering how to care for a loved one to access information about help available locally in Sutton Coldfield.” For more information about the Birmingham Branch of Carers UK please go to www.carersukbirmingham.org/
