Andrew Mitchell MP met with Clerk to the Trustees of Sutton Coldfield Municipal Charities Ernie Murray to hear about the work of the charity over the last year. Sutton’s MP toured the Lingard Suite at the charity’s Walmley Almshouses officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra last September. The extension to the Almshouse Resident’s Lounge offers a games room, IT suite and an arts and crafts facility. During his tour Mr Mitchell was updated on the assistance the charity provides to local residents, organisations and causes in the form of grants. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “Sutton Coldfield Municipal Charities are an excellent example of how a charity can still make progress in the face of difficult economic conditions. I was delighted to hear that £969,000 has been allocated for grant making in the year ahead.” “The residents of the Almshouses demonstrate community life at its best – enjoyed in the company of friends and neighbours and notwithstanding age.” Photo: Andrew Mitchell MP with Clerk to the Trustees of Sutton Coldfield Municipal Charities Ernie Murray.
