Andrew Mitchell MP has visited the Sutton Coldfield Creative Stitchers on the eve of their four day exhibition to have a sneak preview at the displays and encourage others to support the event. (Photo: John Hooper) The exhibition is called ‘Stitched Up!’ and takes place from 3 – 6 August at Bishop Walsh School, on Wylde Green Road in Sutton Coldfield. Visiting the school earlier this week Mr Mitchell met with four of the organisers to hear about the event which aims to bring textile art to the notice and appreciation of the wider community. Over the four days and in addition to the exhibition there will be demonstrations of different techniques, two one-day workshops, and a lecture and demonstration from world renowned textile artist Maggie Grey. Textile materials from eight specialist suppliers will be on sale throughout, as will drinks, sandwiches and homemade cakes. The proceeds from a Book Tombola which also runs over the four days will go to The Norman Laud Association. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “Thank you very much to the Sutton Coldfield Creative Stitchers for allowing me this special sneak preview. I am sure it is going to be a fantastic four days and hope that anyone with an interest in the arts comes along to see for themselves – it’s well worth a visit.” The four day event is the first exhibition of textile art by members of Sutton Coldfield Creative Stitchers and the first exhibition of its kind ever in Sutton Coldfield. Entry to the exhibition which runs 10am – 4.30pm (3.30pm on Saturday) is £3.
