Andrew Mitchell MP had a busy Saturday last week when he visited John Willmott, Holy Cross and Holy Trinity Schools to open and attend their summer fêtes. Visiting John Willmott School on Reddicap Heath Road Andrew Mitchell opened their Summer Fayre, cutting the ribbon and making a short speech. Sutton’s MP also had a go at John Willmott’s equivalent of a coconut shy – instead of coconuts the school used model planets which made up the solar system, relevant because their school Houses are named after the planets. Andrew heard how the library’s complete refurbishment was thanks to the fundraising efforts of the school council, parents, pupils and staff. The Parent Teacher Association itself raised £5,000 and many parents volunteered to paint the library which now features some impressive murals. Mr Mitchell congratulated Holy Cross on a successful year which has included a good Ofsted inspection and seen the school achieve the Quality Mark awarded by the Alliance for LifeLong Learning. The school which takes children from two years of age has recently received an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) grant which has enabled them to expand and completely redevelop their outside space. Congratulations to all three schools on all they are doing. It was great to see such strong school community spirit at all three.”
