A Sutton Coldfield restaurateur has donated £1,000 to the St Giles Hospice Buy A Bed appeal after hosting a successful charity curry night at his popular eatery in Boldmere Road. Curry lovers were invited to enjoy a special four-course meal at Shaban High Class Balti and Tandoori Restaurant last Thursday in exchange for a £20 donation to St Giles Hospice. The fundraising event was attended by dozens of diners, including guest of honour Andrew Mitchell MP. About £600 was collected on the night, with restaurant owner Joynal Abdin topping up the total himself to £1,000. “It was a fantastic night and everybody had a great time – I’ll certainly be looking to do it again,” said Mr Abdin. “I’d like to thank everyone who came along and support this charity event in aid of a very worthy cause in our local community.” Mr Mitchell said, “It was great to see so many people turn out to support St Giles Hospice, one of our star local charities. Thanks to the efforts of Mr Abdin and everyone at Shaban, the Buy A Bed appeal is now a step closer to success, which is great news for St Giles Hospice and for the people who benefit from its care.”
