Andrew Mitchell MP is urging local residents to add their thoughts to the public consultation now under way regarding the future of Sutton Coldfield’s Magistrates’ Court. The 12 week consultation which was launched on 23 June and closes on 15 September 2010 seeks to gather relevant considerations from the public on both the proposed closure of the town’s Magistrates Court as well as the merging of Sutton’s Local Justice Area with the Birmingham Local Justice Area. Sutton MP, Andrew Mitchell, has urged all those who have any interest in the proposals to contribute to the consultation by completing the Ministry of Justice’s questionnaire on the provision of court services in Warwickshire and the West Midlands. Mr Mitchell will meet the Bench Chairman of Sutton Coldfield Magistrates’ Court later this month to discuss the issue further with Sutton’s magistrates. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “It is obviously right to look at value for money in every area of public life because of the dreadful economic circumstances which the Coalition Government has inherited. “However, I am confident that the same arguments which saw off the threat to our court in Sutton eight years ago will be just as strong, if not stronger, today. “I will be coordinating all the arguments in favour of Sutton Coldfield\'s court continuing with my many constituents who have views on this throughout Sutton Coldfield.”
