Following the forthright condemnation by Sutton’s Conservative Councillors of Birmingham Council’s decision to close the Sutton Registry Office of Births and Deaths, and the petition organised on behalf of Sutton Coldfield by Councillor Margaret Waddington J.P., Sutton’s MP Andrew Mitchell has secured agreement from Lord Hunt, Chair of Good Hope Hospital, to investigate whether the Registry Office could be relocated in Good Hope Hospital itself, thus radically reducing the cost of the services. This proposal would undercut the explanation put forward by the Leader of Birmingham City Council, Sir Albert Bore, for the closure of the Registry Office last month in his response to Andrew Mitchell’s request that the decision be revisited.
