Sutton’s MP Andrew Mitchell has voiced support for local crafters Rosemary Trounce and Margaret Harrison whose knitted poppies are raising money for the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes this Remembrance Sunday. Andrew met Rosemary and Margaret at Sutton’s War Memorial to talk about their fundraising efforts and to buy one of their knitted poppies. Andrew heard how the ladies and a team of volunteers at Fox Hill Crafts on Weeford Road have been knitting poppies to sell in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday. This year they have made approximately 3,000 and hope to smash last year’s fundraising total of £5,534 when they sold 1,800 poppies. Andrew Mitchell MP said, “What a great idea for a really worthy cause.” Anyone who wants to buy a poppy (£3 for a plain knitted poppy, £5 for a beaded poppy) should head to Foxhill Crafts at the Mitchell Centre on Weeford Road in Sutton.
