Andrew Mitchell, MP for Sutton Coldfield, visited Moor Hall Hotel and Spa in Sutton Coldfield this week to officially open the hotel’s rose garden and to bury a time capsule as part of the hotel’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Moor Hall was bought by the current owner, Michael Webb in 1961, and the opening of the rose garden is just one of the events planned throughout 2011 to mark the 50 years of family ownership of the hotel. Present at the opening ceremony were Carl Mullen and Ray Lamb, members of the hotel’s Maintenance team, who over the last few months have restored the woods around Moor Hall to reveal a beautiful serpentine pathway, stone arches and what was once a shrubbery garden. Andrew Mitchell, MP, cut the ribbon to officially open the gardens and dug the hole to bury a time capsule which will be opened in 50 years and contains current brochures, menus and photographs from 2011. Commenting on the hotel’s 50th anniversary, Andrew Mitchell MP said: “It was a real pleasure to be here at Moor Hall for this milestone anniversary and to mark the occasion by officially opening their beautiful new rose garden. Congratulations to the family and their staff who I know have worked tirelessly to restore the Hall and its grounds to their former glory, it really is a jewel in Sutton’s crown.” Moor Hall’s 50th anniversary year will culminate in a charity ball in October with Tony Christie, which is sponsored by Barclays Corporate.
