Andrew Mitchell MP and Councillor James Bird have visited Sutton based charity, Acacia, where they presented a cheque for four hundred and fifty pounds. The charity, which was set up in 2004, is a support group for mothers and their families affected by pre or post natal depression across North Birmingham. Hundreds of women have benefited from the charity which is staffed by volunteers who offer advice and support. Councillor Bird who raised the money after running the 8.5 mile \"Great Midlands Fun Run\" in one hour and sixteen minutes, was delighted to hand over the cheque: “This a very worthwhile cause, one which is close to my heart, and I hope it goes someway to supporting the vital work they do.” The visit provided an opportunity for the Acacia team to speak to Andrew Mitchell MP on a variety of subjects, who in turn congratulated the volunteers on the work they do, citing them as “a great example of the big society and one which Sutton can be very proud of.” The charity which started with one centre in Walmley, has spread its services across Birmingham and now has a waiting list of over 40 mothers.
